Registration Guidelines
PLACEMENT

Placement Test score is good for two years. Students may not re-test within valid period.

Returning students, who have not taken the placement test or have not registered for any ESL classes in over two years, must re-take the test.

NO F-1 STUDENTS
F-1 students are not eligible to enroll in noncredit ESL courses.

LEVEL CHANGE
Students should ask for level change requests through the teacher.
ATTENDANCE

Attendance on the first day of class is required. Students will be dropped if they miss class on the first day.

CONTACT TEACHER
EXCEPTION: Absence from the first day is excused if the teacher is contacted before class. Students must leave a message with their name and ID number.

TWO-DAY ABSENCE
NO EXCEPTION: Students who miss the first 2 days or more will be dropped from the class.

OPEN REGISTRATION
Non-participation will result in loss of priority registration and a possible drop from the class.
NO CLASSROOM VISITORS
Non-registered persons cannot attend or visit any ESL classes.

NO UNATTENDED CHILDREN
Unattended children are not allowed on campus. Children are not allowed in the classroom. (See Board Policy 3930)
REGISTRATION

DUPLICATE CLASS
Students cannot take two of the same type of class (for example, students cannot enroll in two Speaking A classes in the same term).

TIME CONFLICT
Students cannot enroll in two classes that meet at the same time and day.
REPEAT CLASS
Students may only take the same level class 3 times and a skills class 5 times. If a student does not pass a level class after the third attempt, student must see a counselor.
CREDIT CLASSES/COMPLETION
CREDIT STUDENTS / ESL GRADUATES
Students who are taking an AMLA or ENGL class may take ESL Skills classes, but not
ESL Level or VESL classes.
Students who complete either the ESL or VESL program may register for Skills classes
only.

SCHEDULE CHANGES

Students who want a teacher change should talk with their current teacher. If students choose not to talk with their teacher, they should see a counselor to drop the class.

TWO WEEKS
Students must attend two weeks of class before requesting a teacher change (Fall/Spring). One week for Winter/Summer.
MUST BE OPEN
Class must be OPEN before requesting teacher change.

ONE TEACHER CHANGE
Students can request one teacher change per term.

LOWEST ENROLLMENT
Students will be placed in the class with the lowest enrollment.
WAITING LIST

Students dropped from an ESL class must re-register and may be placed on a waiting list.

WAITLIST CONTACT
Students will be contacted in the order they were added to the waiting list.

WAITLIST DUE DATE
Students must come in by the date given to register for the class.

NOTIFICATIONS
ESL Registration is not responsible for any delays students may experience in receiving notifications.

INFO CHANGES
Students need to inform ESL Registration if their phone number, email or address changes.

NO SELECTING
Students are not permitted to self-select teachers or class location.
