Course Objectives:
  • English 1 students will compose a well-thought out and written introduction that supports the necessary details incorporated within the essay.
  • Apply knowledge of word origins to determine the meaning of new words encountered in reading materials (i.e., literal vs figurative, denotative vs connotative, mythology, etc.)
  • Students will analyze literature based on the themes of searching for the self, talent, relationships, courage, perseverance, journeys, and visions of the future.
  • Prepare a bibliography (works cited) of reference materials using a variety of fiction, non-fiction, consumer, workplace, and public documents in MLA format.
  • Students will pass the final exam.
  • Students will analyze a document to determine the key influences and effectiveness.
  • Students will construct an essay with all necessary components.
