Course Name: High School English 2

Course Objectives:
  • English 2 students will compose a well-thought out thesis that is supported by relevant details.
  • Students will effectively construct and essay with all necessary components based on the California State Standards.
  • Students will pass the final exam.
  • Apply knowledge of word origins to determine the meaning of new words encountered in reading materials (i.e., literal vs figurative, denotative vs connotative, mythology, etc.)
  • Analyze a document (fiction, nonfiction, historical, informational) to determine the key influences (historical, cultural, author beliefs) and effectiveness.
  • Prepare a bibliography (works cited) of reference materials using a variety of fiction, non-fiction, consumer, workplace, and public documents in MLA format.
  • Analyze a historically or culturally significant work of literature (i.e., short story, novel, poem, excerpt, novella, etc.).
  • Students will construct an essay with all necessary components.
  • English 2 students will effectively construct an essay with all necessary components based on the California State Standards.
